Extrusion Engineer

LOCATION: Valley View, OH

Peak Nano has an immediate opening for a problem-solving leader and Extrusion Engineer that will lead installation, operations, quality control, and troubleshooting of multiple extrusion systems. Peak Nano is focused on developing and delivering innovative, disruptive solutions to the optical lens market. Located in Valley View, OH, the Extrusion Engineer will work closely with Peak Nano Manufacturing and Engineering leadership to ensure high quality, efficient production of optical film.

This key leader will assume responsibility for the manufacture of multi-layer film for the use in polymer optical lenses. Responsibilities include management and recruiting of operations personnel, installation and maintenance of equipment, assisting in development of and meeting production schedule and delivery of high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for company Extrusion Strategy, Plan and Operations

  • Install and commission multilayer extrusion capabilities

  • Manage shift operation of several multilayer film extrusion lines

  • Lead new product qualification

  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation / problem-solving of production issues.

  • Develop and implement maintenance plans

  • Resolve engineering concerns on programs.

  • Recommend / develop upgrades to technology and processes.

  • Lead the scale-up, sampling, and commercialization of new technologies by working seamlessly with other groups, business partners, and customers. Push boundaries on process to develop an understanding of the relationship between process and product performance.

  • Lead continuous improvement programs

  • Consistently apply the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses. Demonstrate the appropriate use of statistical tools to solve complex problems.

  • Serve as coach and provide constructive advice on projects within the team. Use skills and competencies to increase productivity of self and others.

  • Serve on multi-disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverables.

  • Manage, support and guide production line operators

  • Understand and implement appropriate EH&S standards, policies and procedures applicable to operation of an extrusion line. Lead by example in the area of safety behaviours by promoting safe work habits.

Required Qualifications

  • Plastic conversion experience in academia or industry with preference given to individuals with successful manufacturing start-up and process improvement experience.

  • Minimum of 5+ year’s experience in the plastics industry, preferably in the extrusion of polymer films.

  • A track record of delivering quality plastic products

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders from multiple backgrounds

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Passionate about plastic conversion processes including extrusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on operation of plastic conversion equipment such as: extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, blown film, cast film

  • Understanding of polymer chemistry and rheology

  • Optical product production

  • New product scale-up and commercialization experience

  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment

  • Design of Experiments knowledge


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
