Description

Peak Nano is seeking an experienced, self-starting, process engineer to lead the buildout of our capacitor fabrication and device prototyping program. This position will work closely with the Director of Capacitor Film Development to drive integration of our patented nanolayer (Nanoplex) capacitor films in high performance capacitors used in a variety of applications including electric grid, EVs, pulsed power, and fusion energy harvesting. A successful candidate will have basic knowledge of polymer film-based capacitor device design, construction, and performance, along with demonstrated plastics-related process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation, commission, and operation of capacitor winding, end spray, film slitting, and fabrication equipment

  • Fabricate capacitor prototypes and coordinate device-level testing with Peak Nano’s capacitor metrology lab

  • Develop and optimize film formulations, process conditions, device designs and/or metallization processes to improve capacitor prototype performance

  • Identify optimized capacitor fabrication process conditions

  • Develop and document SOPs for capacitor prototype manufacture

  • Recommend / develop upgrades to capacitor fabrication equipment

  • Support scale-up and commercialization of nanolayered capacitor film by working seamlessly with other Peak Nano development groups, its business partners, and its customers

  • Conduct post-mortem analysis on failed capacitor devices to better understand the influence of film formulation, process conditions, or metallization build on device failure

  • Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses

  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of statistical tools to solve complex problems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with thermoplastic polymer films

  • Experience working with polymer processing or conversion equipment such as winders, slitters, metallizers, or extruders

  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments that identify optimized process conditions in the production of plastic products

  • Basic knowledge of automation equipment and PLCs

  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • 3+ years’ experience with capacitor film testing, conversion, and device integration

  • Strong understanding of polymer film processing with some background in film extrusion

  • Familiarity with dielectric film performance and typical test methods

  • Experience with commercialization and scaleup of plastics-related products

  • People leadership experience

  • Demonstrated ability in maintenance and upkeep of plastics-related production equipment

  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment

  • Knowledge of Design of Experiment (DOE) methodology
