Sr. Research Scientist

Peak Nano is focused on developing and delivering innovative, disruptive solutions to the Capacitor Film market. Peak Nano has an immediate opening for a Sr. Research Scientist for its Peak Nano Film (PNF) business unit. This problem-solving scientist will report directly to the Chief Science Officer. The Sr. Research Scientist will be responsible for ideation, formulation, and overseeing execution of polymer product development programs to both grow and support Peak Nano’s business in targeted and new markets. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in polymer material science, new product development, polymeric materials characterization, and a minimum working knowledge of various polymeric processing techniques. Located at the Peak Nano facilities in Valley View, Ohio the Sr. Research Scientist will assume responsibility for research products supporting core development of new and leveraged thin multi-layered cast polymer film technology. The Sr. Research Scientist will work closely with Peak Nano Manufacturing, Science, and Sales team to ensure fundamentally differentiated products are identified, explored, and matured toward market introduction. Additional responsibilities include selection of polymeric materials for multi-layered cast films, identification and development of materials characterization techniques, oversight of film sample creation, evaluation of new capital opportunities related to multi-layered production and characterization, interaction with external customers and oversite of project management, and networking to evaluate and bring new technology and capabilities to Peak Nano enabling investigation of next generation products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead targeted layered polymeric material development projects and a small project team to resolve technical challenges.
  • Fundamental understanding of polymer structure-property relationships for leading development roadmap to evaluate new technologies and materials.
  • Serve on multi-disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverables
  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation / problem-solving of technical issues
  • Work seamlessly with other groups, business partners, and customers to assist in scale-up new technology
  • Push boundaries to develop an understanding of the relationship between process and product performance.
  • Consistently apply the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving to resolve Scientising concerns.
  • Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of statistical tools to solve complex problems.
  • Understand and implement appropriate EH&S standards, policies, and procedures applicable to operation of an extrusion line. Lead by example in safety behaviors by promoting safe work habits.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in polymeric material science related fields, ideally holding experience in extruded film, multi-layered products, or related fields
  • Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders from multiple backgrounds.
  • Fundamental knowledge of polymer material science structure-property relationships, polymer rheology, film extrusion and film mechanical and transport properties.
  • A track record of delivering quality technical solutions
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about polymer material science and thin film applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in polymer (multi-layered) product development
  • Materials testing and characterization experience
  • New product scale-up and commercialization experience
  • Design of Experiments knowledge
  • Project management experience directing small teams (1-2 Scientists or technicians)

Education

Bachelor’s degree (+8 years) in Materials Science, Plastic Scientising, Mechanical Scientising, Chemical Scientising or advanced degree (Master’s degree or PhD -preferred).
