    Engineering Intern: Opto-Mechanical Assembly & Prototyping – Spring ‘26

    Description

    • Provide mechanical design support for projects related to the manufacture and performance evaluation of optical systems. Create detailed models, assemblies, and prints based on design criteria and concept sketches.

    • Participate in manufacturing process development and process improvement efforts related to the assembly of optical systems. Contribute informed feedback related to the manufacturability of proposed concepts.

    • Quick-turnaround design of jigs and fixtures. Identify materials and fabrication approaches to minimize cost and lead time. Engage with the machine shop team to stay updated on progress and identify optimal manufacturing methods.

    • Use data analysis and presentation tools to efficiently communicate experimental design, results, and conclusions to internal cross-functional technical teams. Share original concepts and design solutions in collaborative brainstorming and design review meetings.

    • Manage project timelines and efficiently communicate progress, technical challenges, and successes.

    • Maintain comprehensive process documentation to uphold reproducibility standards and comply with EH&S requirements.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be located in the Cleveland, OH area

    • US Citizenship

    • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

    • Familiarity with 3D-modeling and comfortable generating parts, assemblies, and drawings

    • Experience with operating 3D printers and an understanding of the design constraints related to 3D printing

    • Eagerness to develop hands-on experience with mechanical design and manufacturing process development

    • Fabrication experience and familiarity with hand tools

    Preferred Qualifications

    • SolidWorks experience

    • Familiarity with GD&T
