High-Performance Metamaterials Built to Improve Electrical, Thermal, Mechanical, and Protective Systems Across Industries

Metamaterial Engineering

NanoPlex uses precision-engineered nanolayers to control electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties at the molecular level. This metamaterial approach enables:

  • Tunable permittivity and dielectric strength
  • Superior thermal endurance
High breakdown voltage and field uniformity
  • Customizable stress/strain profiles
  • Thin, flexible films that outperform thicker alternatives

Reliable in These Environments:

  • High-ripple current environments
  • Frequent duty cycling (start/stop applications)
  • Explosive or flammable atmospheres (motor starts, industrial power)
  • Low-shrinkage and high mechanical integrity
  • This is particularly valuable in sectors like defense optics, aerospace, and industrial motor control.

Backed by Science and Patents

Our NanoPlex patented process is the result of years of scientific development, now commercially deployed in some of the world’s most demanding environments: power grids, AI data centers, EV applications, defense optics, and fusion energy.

U.S.-Engineered. U.S.-Manufactured. Allied-Sourced.

Every roll of NanoPlex is developed and produced in the United States using trusted allied supply chains. This provides greater supply assurance, quality control, and national security compatibility, critical for defense.

Peak NanoPlex™ Frequently Asked Questions

NanoPlex retains full-rated performance up to 135–145°C, far beyond BOPP's 85°C limit and even PET’s 125°C range. This eliminates the need for derating and enables smaller, more efficient capacitor banks.

NanoPlex is built using patented rheological flow control, allowing the precise stacking of up to 4,096 polymer layers. This nanostructure creates custom dielectric properties not achievable with traditional monolayered or biaxially oriented films.

Yes. NanoPlex LDF is engineered for compatibility with standard capacitor manufacturing, including slitting, winding, and metallization, making it a drop-in upgrade to traditional BOPP or PEN film.

NanoPlex films feature:

  • Dielectric constant (HDC variants) of ~5.0+
  • Dissipation factor as low as 0.0003
  • Breakdown strength >700 V/µm
  • Stable capacitance even under high ripple current and temperature

NanoPlex LDF is ideal for:

  • DC link capacitors
  • HVDC capacitors
  • Power factor correction capacitors
  • Pulse power capacitors
  • Fusion capacitors (magnetic confinement fusion)

NanoPlex HDC is ideal for:

  • Pulse power capacitors
  • Fusion capacitors (inertial confinement)
  • Motor start capacitors
  • Defense grade direct energy capacitors
  • Mobile grid capacitors

Low film-level dissipation leads to decreased self-heating, and the nanolayer structure promotes higher thermal tolerance and mechanical integrity under high voltage stress. This enables a longer service life, especially in high-frequency, high-ripple-current, and temperature-cycling environments.

Because of NanoPlex's higher energy density, engineers can achieve:

  • Fewer capacitors per rack
  • Smaller and lighter assemblies
  • Reduced enclosure sizes and BOM complexity

Yes. NanoPlex is fully engineered and manufactured in the United States using allied-sourced polymers. This ensures secure supply chains, compliance with defense/energy programs, and rapid prototyping support.

NanoPlex is undergoing qualification under:

  • IEC 61071, UL 810, and MIL-STD 202
  • Internal validation under high-ripple current, HV, and thermal cycling
Custom test results are available for capacitor OEMs upon request.

Yes, Peak offers LDF and HDC variants for sample requests in capacitor development. Fill out our form or contact our engineering team to explore which grades are best suited for your design specs at sales@peaknano.com.
