Peak Nano × Advanced Conversion Partnership

Building the DC Link 800V+ SiC Inverters Demand

Peak Nano and Advanced Conversion are partnering to co-develop next-generation DC-link capacitor solutions for high-voltage e-mobility. These capacitors combine Peak’s NanoPlex™ LDF film with Advanced Conversion’s Power Ring integration platform to close the performance gap that legacy BOPP-based designs can no longer bridge.

Our Partnership

The shift to 800V+ power architectures and Silicon Carbide (SiC) switching has rewritten the rules for every component in the inverter… especially the DC link.

SiC MOSFETs demand lower inductance, higher operating temperatures, faster switching frequencies, and greater voltage endurance than BOPP-based capacitors can provide. The workarounds (derating, oversizing, and added cooling) are expensive and weight-restrictive. They undermine the efficiency gains SiC was supposed to deliver.

Peak Nano and Advanced Conversion are partnering to solve that problem from the ground up, pairing:

  • Peak’s NanoPlex LDF: The world's most thermally capable low-loss capacitor film for high-voltage power electronics

  • Advanced Conversion's patented Power Ring Platform: The industry's lowest-inductance DC-link integration architecture

Together, we’re delivering a DC-link solution designed specifically for 800V SiC inverters.

Why Advanced Conversion Selected NanoPlex LDF

Advanced Conversion selected Peak Nano's NanoPlex LDF as the film foundation for its next-generation Power Ring DC-link solutions targeting e-mobility, electrified aviation, and DC fast-charging infrastructure.

NanoPlex LDF: The Film Built for 800V+ SiC

NanoPlex LDF is engineered using advanced nanolayer polymer architecture to achieve thermal stability and voltage endurance that conventional single-polymer films cannot reach.

NanoPlex LDF is a drop-in replacement for polyester-based films, such as biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), in existing winding and fabrication recipes.

LDF Performance vs. Traditional BOPP:

  • Maintains 95% of room-temperature breakdown strength at 135°C
  • 25% higher current handling at the same voltage and temperature as BOPP
  • No derating required up to 135°C, enabling capacitors to sit directly adjacent to hot SiC modules without a thermal buffer
  • Engineered and manufactured domestically

Commitment to Life Testing

Peak Nano is actively engaged in life testing of NanoPlex LDF — a critical validation step that has historically been a gap in the incumbent polyester film supply chain. Life testing under real-world voltage, temperature, and time conditions is not a trivial undertaking, but it is essential for film dielectrics to achieve the reliability levels demanded by 800V+ SiC-based power electronics. The absence of this testing has been a meaningful limitation holding back conventional films from broader adoption in high-performance applications.

"Peak Nano's willingness and ability to pursue life testing represents a significant step forward — and a key differentiator from prior generations of dielectric film.”

Edward Sawyer, CEO, Advanced Power Conversion Solutions

Turning Film Performance Into a Complete DC-Link System

Advanced Conversion's Power Ring architecture translates NanoPlex LDF's material capabilities into a fully integrated, optimized DC-link solution.

The Power Ring’s annular winding geometry achieves ultra-low commutation loop inductance (under 5nH) while maximizing thermal extraction from the capacitor. A geometric ideal for motor housing, the Power Ring is configurable for flat inverter packaging or ring shapes that mount directly onto motor ends, making use of volumetric space conventional designs can’t access.

Together, this combination enables:

  • Up to 99% inverter efficiency with SiC controls
  • Up to 10× faster switching frequencies (reaching 200kHz)
  • 2× better voltage support for 800V platforms
  • Superior thermal performance up to 135°C
  • Reduced part counts, sizes, and cooling demands
  • DC charging in minutes, not hours

  • EV traction is our primary focus right now, but it's not the only application where nanolayer dielectric architecture has something to offer. With the shift to 800V architecture for AI datacenters, DC-Link capacitors with the ability to withstand high temperatures and ripple currents will be needed. NanoPlex LDF is expected to fill that gap and also find utility in renewable energy applications and grid applications where high ambient temperatures can negatively impact device lifetime.

  • We have also commercialized a second film product called Nanoplex HDC, optimized for pulsed-power applications — a market with distinct requirements for energy density, voltage standoff, and discharge characteristics. Peak has ongoing work with multiple capacitor manufacturers to evaluate how this film interacts with advanced capacitor geometries to push breakdown voltage higher without sacrificing capacitance per unit volume, and results will be published when field testing is complete. If pulsed power is relevant to your program, we'd welcome a conversation.
