Why Nanolayer Coextrusion
Conventional film engineering forces trade-offs. Single-polymer films stay limited to one material's properties, blends average performance instead of maximizing it, and traditional multilayer films add tie layers, specialty resins and cost. Peak Nano's nanolayer coextrusion removes those trade-offs by combining existing polymers into hundreds to thousands of precisely controlled layers, turning layer order, thickness, ratio and composition into design variables. This tech brief explains how the process works and why architecture, not new chemistry, unlocks new film performance.
What's inside:
- How feed blocks and layer multipliers build thousands of layers, each 25 nm to 10 µm thick, and why polymers confined below about 250 nm deliver 35-40% higher toughness than blends of identical composition in published research
- A side-by-side comparison of traditional multilayer and nanolayered films, plus the cost picture: retrofit existing equipment for only 5-10% of system cost, with no change to operating costs
- What nanolayering means for energy, packaging and industrial applications, and how the same principles back NanoPlex™ HDC and LDF capacitor films qualified in the market today
